Lifesaving skills on show at emergency response competition

More than 30 emergency responders from Northern Star Resources, Gold Fields, Ramelius Resources and Westgold Resources put their lifesaving skills on show in eight realistic scenarios at the 11th annual Mining and Emergency Response Competition (MERC).

Northern Star Resources and the Gold Industry Group (GIG) were proud sponsors again of the free event at Langley Park Perth, from 26 to 28 November 2021, attracting hundreds of local spectators to witness the action and participate in the fun free activities on offer. The event theme, diversity and inclusion, was celebrated by the first ever all-female team from Gold Fields.

Gold industry backs LIVIN to empower students across Australia to speak up

The Gold Industry Group and LIVIN are set to embark on their third national tour in August, to empower students across Australia to speak up and provide much needed practical tools on mental health through more than 80 relatable workshops.

Approximately one in two Australians experience mental ill health over the course of their lifetime and research suggests that less than 50% of people experiencing mental ill health will access professional support.

The Gold Industry Group (GIG) is proud to be the Industry Partner of the ninth annual Mining and Emergency Response Competition, held in Perth from 22 to 24 November 2019.

The GIG will provide two free mental health workshops, courtesy of community partner LIVIN, to almost 200 emergency response personnel, event marshals and volunteers.

As proud Platinum Sponsor of LIVIN WA’s annual charity ball, the Gold Industry Group joined representatives from Newmont Goldcorp Australia, Gold Fields, Newcrest Mining and Gold Road Resources to raise awareness and funds for mental health.

The ‘unmasked’ theme encouraged the hundreds of attendees to break the stigma around mental illness.

Gold workers join LIVINWell movement

The Gold Industry Group (GIG)’s recent mental health tour with charity LIVIN is being hailed a success after more than 40 stigma breaking workshops were delivered across Australia reaching more than 1,200 gold industry workers, locals and students.

As a result of the resounding positive feedback from attendees, the tour has been extended with more workshops to be delivered at gold mine sites in June and a school tour is being explored for 2020.

In June 2017, the Gold Industry Group took the founders of mental health not-for-profit LIVIN to Kalgoorlie to share their story and send a message of strength to young people in the Goldfields. 

In collaboration with City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, LIVIN founders Sam Webb and Casey Lyons were interviewed by the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Youth Council.

Last week the Gold Industry Group held workshops in Perth and Kalgoorlie with new community partner LIVIN, to demystify the stigma attached to mental illness and provide the basic tools to help yourself and others.

LIVIN founders Sam Webb and Casey Lyons delivered six educational workshops with members and a community event.
