More than 15,000 job seekers descended on the annual SkillsWest Career Expo in Perth earlier this month, where the Gold Industry Group, Newmont Goldcorp Australia, Norton Gold Fields, Macmahon and Ausdrill showcased the sector’s career opportunities.
Held from 16 to 18 August in the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, the expo presented a unique opportunity for job seekers to discover current vacancies and career pathways at over 100 exhibiting organisations.
Mining contractor Macmahon Holdings engages retired mixed martial artist, Soa “The Hulk” Palelei as an ambassador for its Strong Minds, Strong Mines mental health program.
The program was launched in March 2018 with toolbox talks delivered to around 800 workers across Macmahon’s Western Australian operations. It has since been extended to reach more than 1500 workers Australia wide.
Soa (The Hulk) Palelei gave two motivational speeches to children and adults at the Meekatharra Youth Expo thanks to the support of Doray Minerals Ltd, Mission Australia, the Department of Premier & Cabinet and the Meekatharra Shire.
In its inaugural year, and organised by the Meekatharra Shire, the communities of Wiluna, Meekatharra, Yulga Jinna, Mt Magnet, Cue and Newman were invited to participate in the Youth Expo which informed people of the wide range of within school and post-school options and networking opportunities.
