Gibbs Street Primary School and Swan Valley Anglican Community School students have been among the first to walk Perth's newest and first virtual gold trail on an all expenses paid school excursion.
Gibbs Street Primary School won our Hit92.9 competition and Swan Valley Anglican Community School won our AISWA Humanities and Social Sciences Conference competition, in celebration of the launch of the Heart of Gold Discovery Trail, featured on the Heart of Gold Australia app, in Elizabeth Quay in October 2017.
On Thursday 24 November, the year 5 students from Swan Valley Anglican Community School took to the streets of Perth on the interactive gold trail, uncovering its golden past while discovering its significant value and importance to the State's development.
Listening to stories of influencers past and watching videos of leaders of today, students had the opportunity to connect with people working in the industry and those who played a role in building the city through the trails interactive experience. Every stop had something new and fun to explore with interactive widgets, photos and augmented reality taking trailblazers back in time as they developed a new found appreciation for gold at 12 locations of significance on their journey.
At the end of the trail the students claimed their commemorative heart of gold medallion before experiencing a live gold pour and the many gold exhibits at The Perth Mint.
A week later, the year 6 students from Gibbs Street Primary School embarked on their adventure with us, as they discovered WA's heart of gold while being filmed for our schools program video.
Thanks to our school competition partners Two Feet & a Heartbeat Perth and The Perth Mint.
You can download the Heart of Gold Australia app from iTunes or Google Play to embark on your interactive gold tour of Perth city.
This long-term community initiative provides valuable education opportunities, with teachers encouraged to take their class on the trail and curriculum linked teacher resources available for year 5 and year 9.
