IGO Limited has partnered with Ronald McDonald House Charities WA (RMHC WA) to launch a 42km walking challenge called Day Dreamers, a ‘sister’ event of the popular Up All Night walking marathon, to raise essential funds for sick children and their families across Western Australia.
With the success of Up All Night in Perth, the event’s major supporter, IGO Limited, and RMHC WA saw the opportunity to get all Western Australians involved to support seriously ill kids and their families from communities across the State.
Managing Director and CEO of IGO Limited, Peter Bradford, said Day Dreamers is a giving experience everyone can achieve, anywhere in WA, at their own pace.
“Together with all Western Australians, we’re on a mission to raise at least $200,000 to help continue the essential family support service of RMHC WA,” Mr Bradford said.
“It’s an ideal event for FIFO communities to get involved in for their physical and mental health and I encourage our mining industry peers across the State to take part,” he explained.
All proceeds will go towards providing essential services to regional and remote families with seriously ill or injured children requiring critical or complex medical treatment in Perth.
RMHC WA will be able to provide families with access to accommodation, continued education for young patients and their siblings and a range of well-being programs, as long as they need it.
RMHC WA’s Patron of 21 years, Adam Gilchrist, said Day Dreamers hopes to inspire friendly competition across towns, regions and industries for the inaugural fundraising walk.
“In a State as vast and remote as ours, West Aussies understand how devastating it would be to leave home, jobs, friends and communities with a sick child in need of specialist care,” Mr Gilchrist said.
“RMHC WA alleviates the emotional and financial burden for families far from home at the most difficult time of their lives,” he concluded.
