Northern Star Resources have announced a three-year partnership with “The Y” WA (YMCA WA) to improve youth engagement and early education in Kalgoorlie.
As part of the partnership, Northern Star will secure access to 46 childcare places, at the newly-constructed facility on Porter Street, and will provide direct financial support to local youth engagement activities delivered by The Y in coming years.
The childcare facility is set to open in the coming weeks, with Northern Star’s General Manager: KCGM Operations Nick Strong explaining how important this partnership and childcare places in Kalgoorlie-Boulder are.
“From our residential workforce, we know that childcare in Kalgoorlie-Boulder is often in high demand, but short supply,” said Mr Strong.
“This centre will provide essential care and early childhood education for nearly 100 local children, a great outcome for all involved.
Northern Star’s General Manager: Kalgoorlie Operations Vic Simpson shared his excitement.
“As the City continues to grow, it is pleasing to see organisations such as The Y provide important services for families, children and young people in Kalgoorlie-Boulder,” said Mr Simpson.
“Northern Star has a significant footprint in the Goldfields with over 80% of our people living and working in the region.
“We look forward to seeing the benefits of this partnership for all families who access YMCA services in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, including our people and the wider community.”
While this partnership secures access to centre positions for Northern Star employees and their families, they will not be subsidised and will be at standard “Y” rates. All funds from the partnership will be directed back into the centre to improve service delivery and educational outcomes for the children in care and youth programs.
