Since 2001, Evolution Mining’s Mount Rawdon gold mine has produced over 59 tonnes of gold, milled over 65 metric tonnes of ore, and mined over 220 metric tonnes of material.
The mine site started out with an 8-year mine life and through the hard work of many, it has upheld its successful operation well past that expected duration.
Evolution Mining’s Mount Rawdon General Manager Thomas Lethbridge praised the efforts of the local community.
“The Mt Rawdon operation remains a sustainable and reliable gold mine because of the people who are our greatest asset.”
“Evolution Mining engages in creating better local communities where we operate and adding value where we can in line with our values of safety, respect, excellence and accountability,” Mr Lethbridge said.
Celebrating their 20th anniversary at Mt Rawdon in February, Evolution Mining’s event was supported by the North Burnett Regional Council and helped to raise funds for the Mt Perry Country Women’s Association, Men’s Shed, and The RSL.
The celebration included an organised COVID-19 safe tour for more than 100 locals of the Mt Rawdon operation. More than 250 people gathered for a free community celebration at the Mt Perry Show Grounds with live entertainment, food, and children’s rides.
Evolution Mining is an integral part of the local community and supports several community projects in the region including the Yalga-Binbi Training Centre which opened in January. The centre offers alternative schooling with flexible learning environments for youth who may be at risk of becoming disengaged from mainstream education and offers training and employment pathways into several industries.
The Mt Perry Summit Trail, a tourist attraction which is due for completion this year, is another shared value project which Evolution has helped support in the community.
A partnership with Mt Perry Men’s Shed has also ensured delivery of a Melbourne SW-5 Tram ahead of a refurbishment program, as well as to the 2018 regional Melbourne Cup Tour which featured locally mined gold in the creation of the prized trophy.
Evolution’s continued support for the 1770 Cultural Connections Immersion Festival, a two-day event that celebrates the history of the traditional owners of the region prior to and post colonisation will see the program expand in its second year.
Evolution Mining is currently progressing with a feasibility project to integrate renewable energy infrastructure at the Mt Rawdon Operation with a pumped hydro scheme entailing the construction of a reservoir that would provide long-term benefits to the region and economy.
