As a presenting partner of this year’s Resources Technology Showcase (RTS), the Gold Industry Group (GIG) is eager to welcome students, teachers, and members of the community to a fun, interactive gold exhibition on 21 - 22 June 2021.
Gold Fields VP of Legal and Compliance and GIG Chair Kelly Carter emphasized the importance of inspiring and preparing tomorrow’s workforce.
“The Gold Industry Group’s initiatives are centered around education and developing talent pathways to support our future industry workforce.
“Through our National Gold Education Program we are bringing Australia’s gold industry to life, and we are really excited to showcase the sector’s opportunities at this year’s RTS ,” said Ms Carter.
The GIG’s gleaming interactive exhibit will host three action-packed challenges. Students will start with the interactive ‘Discover Gold in Your Life Challenge’ game where they need to find the uses of gold in daily life on the Heart of Gold Australia App.
Students will earn a prize upon finishing the game and proceed to the second challenge, the ‘Golden Flair Challenge’ renewables activity where they need to power a mini car using batteries charged from a wind turbine which they will need to build and charge themselves.
After winning another prize from completing the Golden Flair activity, they can then progress to the final stop, the ‘Gold Jobs Challenge’ where they simply answer seven questions carefully to discover prospective careers that might suit them in the gold industry.
Students can also enter a bonus round at the National Gold Education Program’s section, the ‘Gold Rocks Challenge’ where they need to guess the names of all seven rock samples correctly to win an even bigger prize.
The GIG aims to showcase Australia’s diverse gold industry in the fun-filled three-day event in addition to highlighting the critical role innovation and technology play in driving the industry.
On behalf of the gold industry, Gold Fields Energy Manager James Koerting and Gold Fields Superintendent: Environment and Community Ashleigh Shelton will be sharing a cool and inspiring presentation on renewable energy in gold on the centre court stage at 12pm Monday, 21 June.
In the lead up to RTS 2021, Seven West Media released a three-part Media Education series in partnership with GIG to share nuggets of information about technology in and around the gold industry. More than 700 schools ordered the education resources and booked an excursion to RTS 2021 to enter the draw to win a class trip to Northern Star Resources’ Super Pit.
Amanda Moreno Diaz and her class of year 11 students from Woodvale Secondary College have been awarded winners of the trip and flew out to Kalgoorlie for the excursion of a lifetime on Thursday, 10 June 2021.
