Narrogin Shooting Stars and West Coast Fever stars Jhaniele Fowler and Stacey Francis-Bayman went behind the scenes at Newmont Australia’s Boddington Gold Mine recently, gaining an insight into sustainability, technology and the diverse careers on offer in Australia’s gold industry.
The Gold Industry Group, of which Newmont is a champion, is the first premier partner Shooting Stars, first principal partner of Netball WA and principal partner of West Coast Fever.
Newmont has achieved a gold industry first, delivering production from the new autonomous truck fleet at their Boddington mine site this month.
When fully operational later in 2021, Boddington will be the world’s first open pit gold mine with an autonomous haul truck fleet.
The latest Resources and Energy Quarterly (REQ), reported Australia increased its production by 0.6% to 328 tonnes in 2020, despite a decrease in global gold supply by 3.9% due to COVID-19.

As the MERC’s chosen Industry Partner, the Gold Industry Group proudly supported the 2019 Mining Emergency Response Competition (MERC) alongside two gold mining teams and 12 others from across Western Australia including one from Indonesia, as they competed at Langley Park in Perth from 22 to 24 November.

Hundreds descended on Langley Park in Perth over the weekend as AngloGold Ashanti, Newmont Australia and Northern Star Resources’ emergency response teams battled it out with 15 other teams to win the 8th annual Mining Emergency Response Competition (MERC).
A unique tourism experience, showcasing the complete gold production process from mine to mint, was unveiled by the Premier of Western Australia, the Honourable Mark McGowan MLA, at The Perth Mint today.
