Newcrest backs new Australian-made ventilator to combat COVID-19

Newcrest Mining Limited has joined the effort to boost Australian manufacturing and tackle COVID-19, by contributing A$200,000 to the production of a new low-cost Australian-made ventilator.

The OzVader ventilator prototype, which has been developed by Australian company Olitek, is in the final stages of performance and validation testing. Olitek is seeking Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration exemption to manufacture and supply the ventilator.

Newcrest Mining Limited has announced a A$1 million contribution to support cutting edge COVID-19 vaccine research in partnership with the University of Queensland (‘UQ’).

Newcrest creates $20 million Community Support Fund

Newcrest Mining Limited has established a global A$20 million Community Support Fund to provide financial assistance to its host communities to help them face the challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Australia, a portion of the fund will be directed to the Orange, Blayney and Cabonne regions in New South Wales and the Telfer region in Western Australia.

Gold miners have joined with the resources sector in Western Australia to donate more than $9 million to the Royal Flying Doctors Service, Foodbank and Lifeline.

The Gold Industry Group’s popular Women in Gold Great Diversity Debate hit the road this year, expanding from its original host city of Perth to both Sydney and Melbourne, with a diverse panel of 12 speakers and hundreds of guests from across the nation joining the #womeningold19 conversation.

Since the GIG’s inaugural event in 2016, the debate has quickly become one of the most influential diversity events on Australia’s mining calendar, this year amplifying the topic three-fold crossing three States.

Newcrest honour Martu worker

A significant new symbol of the ever-growing and closer relationships between Newcrest Mining and the Martu people was celebrated at the company’s Telfer gold mine, with the official opening of the Kevin Fred Room.

Named after Martu elder Kevin Fred, it is the first of any building at Telfer named to honour an individual, and recognises the 16-year period in which Kevin worked tirelessly to strengthen relationships and trust between Newcrest and the Martu people.
