As Australia’s gold industry continues to operate and safely support its workforce, gold producers and contractors are seeking Australians to fulfil a range of roles, ensuring the essential resource is assisting our economy, people and nation.

With the current situation impacting how gold companies operate in many ways, health and safety remains the top priority, ensuring its workforce, their families and local communities stay safe from the spread of novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19).

This includes suspending unnecessary travel, cancelling all non-essential meetings, enforcing strict social distancing measures, implementing flexible working arrangements, undertaking regular health screenings, staggering mealtimes, providing mental health support, utilising technology to facilitate on-site interactions between workers and ensuring rigorous cleaning regimes.

As the world’s second largest gold producer, mining more than 326 tonnes of gold in 2019, Australia’s gold industry is also the second largest employer within the nation’s mining sector, providing jobs (directly and related) for more than 55,000 Australians.

The gold industry provides the economic lifeblood to many regional Australian communities, with gold miners paying hundreds of millions in taxes and royalties each year to build vital infrastructure and fund essential community services, such as our hospitals and health centres. In addition, gold companies are an integral part of the community through their support of a wide range of organisations, active participation, local sourcing and in-kind donations. As the country’s third largest export industry, gold exports are helping to keep our economy afloat to ensure necessary funds remain available.

Providing jobs in a time where many other sectors are forced to suspend operations is supporting families and communities across the nation and is ensuring aid relief such as medical assistance, health support and food-banks can continue to service our society's most vulnerable.

Keeping Australia's gold industry running ensures the precious metal not only supports our economy and our people during these times of hardship but is available for essential uses in our everyday lives.

Jobs in gold vary across exploration, mining, refining and trade roles, from administrative to technical and everything in between.
