KCGM’s latest Safety Innovation Award recipients have chosen to donate their wins to three local organisations: Full Circle, Goldfields Women’s Refuge and the Headspace Kalgoorlie branch.

The three award winners for this quarter were Matthew Adams from Open Pit Mining, Kate Scolyer and Kevin Barry from Processing and the Mount Charlotte Underground Operational Supervisors.

IGO are up all night for charity

As Gold Partner, Independence Group will join other businesses and individuals across Perth for the Up All Night marathon next month, raising funds and awareness for Ronald McDonald House Charities Western Australia.

The 42 km walk will commence at 9pm on Saturday 30 November and end at 8am on Sunday 1 December, in solidarity of those families with sick children who experience similar hardship.

REQ Report: The future looks bright for gold

Australia’s gold exports are forecast to hit a record high of AUD $25 billion in 2019-20 according to the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science’s September edition of Resources and Energy Quarterly (REQ).

The September REQ shows Australia remains the world’s second largest producer of gold, with production increasing by 6.3% in FY 2018–19 to 321 tonnes, equating to 9% of the world’s total supply in 2018.

Saracen Mineral Holdings, Macmahon Holdings and Regis Resources will join other mining companies around Perth in October to support the MACA Cancer 200 Ride for Research, raising awareness of and funds for medical research in the fight to conquer cancer.

Now in it’s 8th year, the MACA Cancer 200 Ride for Research has already raised over $30 million to date, for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.

More than 15,000 job seekers descended on the annual SkillsWest Career Expo in Perth earlier this month, where the Gold Industry Group, Newmont Goldcorp Australia, Norton Gold Fields, Macmahon and Ausdrill showcased the sector’s career opportunities.

Held from 16 to 18 August in the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, the expo presented a unique opportunity for job seekers to discover current vacancies and career pathways at over 100 exhibiting organisations.

Development of a rapid cancer test at the University of Queensland (UQ) using gold nanoparticles, will be aided by a $300,000 donation from Australian gold mining company Evolution Mining.

On July 12, Newcrest Mining supported 70 young Martu men to participate in a curtain raiser football match at Perth’s Optus Stadium prior to The AFL Grand Final rematch between Collingwood and the West Coast Eagles.

The young Martu players and support staff travelled several thousand kilometres to Perth from various remote communities in the Pilbara region of WA.

Six Newcrest Mining Limited employees banded together to embark on an epic 2,246 km bike ride from their Perth office to the Telfer operations, raising awareness and funds for mental health.

Funds raised went to the WA Disabled Sports Association and Beyond Blue, helping to make a difference in the lives of those affected by anxiety, depression or suicide.
