Ask most people that work in finance what they think about Bitcoin, and the likely response will be; “it’s a bubble”.
Google certainly seems to think so too, with “Bitcoin is a Bubble” returning 31,800,000 results, proof of how many times people have, incorrectly so far, called a top in the price of the world’s most famous cryptocurrency.
Tonight, the Gold Industry Group will host its second Women in Gold Sundowner at The Perth Mint in conjunction with Women in Mining WA, this year putting diversity under the spotlight with a great debate in front of more than 300 guests.

Western Australians have long treasured their gold mining heritage. We have admired the courage, tenacity and sheer grit of those who laboured in the harsh and hot goldfields during the first gold rush in early 1890s.
With Perth's first boom driven by a gold rush, the Gold Industry Group has launched the #heartofgold Discovery Trail starting at Elizabeth Quay.
The Gold Industry Group recently discovered what happens behind the scenes in one of the world's largest precious metals logistics companies.
We recently spoke to Nathan Eastwood, the General Manager for the South Asia Pacific region at G4S International.
The township of Leinster lies 368km north of Kalgoorlie and is often described as an oasis in the desert. Residents refer to it as either the 'home of the wedge tail eagle' or 'the jewel of the northern goldfields'.
Gold mining first began in the area in 1897 and the town was established in 1976. Today, Leinster is home to some 500 gold and nickel mine workers. The Gold Industry Group had the opportunity to visit the mining town and attend the regional race day earlier this month.
We painted the city gold to celebrate the official opening of the #heartofgold Discovery Trail in Elizabeth Quay! And what fun it was, with more than 1500 braving the cold weather to experience Perth’s first virtual gold trail.
The event was a celebration of the significant role gold has played and continues to play in the development of WA, bringing the stories of early prospectors who first discovered gold to life.
In June 2017, the Gold Industry Group took the founders of mental health not-for-profit LIVIN to Kalgoorlie to share their story and send a message of strength to young people in the Goldfields.
In collaboration with City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, LIVIN founders Sam Webb and Casey Lyons were interviewed by the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Youth Council.
To celebrate the launch of Perth’s Heart of Gold Discovery Trail at Elizabeth Quay this Saturday, The Perth Mint is giving trail blazers the opportunity to pan for real gold!
Scattered with real gold nuggets from Ramelius Resources’ Wattle Dam gold mine, the Mint’s interactive dry panning activity will have Perth families and tourists of all ages experience what it was like to search for gold during the gold rushes of the late 1800s.
The Gold Industry Group will launch its Heart of Gold Discovery Trail at a free event in Elizabeth Quay this Saturday.
The virtual trail is the first self-guided tour of its kind giving members of the community and visitors to the State an interactive ‘gold’ experience via the Heart of Gold Australia app.
Western Australia’s gold history is both colourful and fascinating. Following the challenges of the First World War, the 1930s brought revitalisation to the gold industry with a rise in the gold price and an increase in foreign investment. However, it was the discovery of a gold nugget in 1931 that created a national sensation and saw many prospectors return to WA.
The Gold Industry Group’s role is vital to educating and engaging with the wider community on the historic, social and economic importance of the gold industry to Western Australia.
“By leading community and industry initiatives we can create change that will positively influence future generations and ensure the industry stays strong,” said Richard Hayes, Gold Industry Group Chairperson.
In 1892, Coolgardie grew into a booming town after prospectors Arthur Bayley and William Ford discovered a rich find of gold nuggets at Fly Flat. Prospectors, gold diggers, mining companies and speculators then followed the gold rush during the roaring nineties in Western Australia.
The #heartofgold Discovery Trail will be launched in Perth on Saturday 7 October, which is part of a long-term community engagement program aimed at educating and engaging the wider community on the rich history and importance of Australia's gold industry, with a strong focus on educating at a grass roots level.
