The Gold Industry Group are the new naming rights partner of the State Netball Centre; with Netball WA announcing the world-class, netball-first venue will now be known as the Gold Netball Centre.
This exciting announcement was made today by Sport and Recreation Minister, the Hon. Mick Murray MLA, alongside VenuesWest CEO David Etherton, Netball WA CEO Simon Taylor and Gold Industry Group Vice Chairperson Kelly Carter.
The first of the signage has been installed, with netballers and their families able to see the Centre transform over the coming months.
As the primary domain of netball in Western Australia, the Gold Netball Centre is home to the West Coast Fever, is the main venue of the Gold Industry Group West Australian Netball League, and hosts Netball WA’s major events including the Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships and NAIDOC Netball Carnival, as well as housing Netball WA’s offices.
The Gold Netball Centre is the latest in the collaboration between Netball WA and the Gold Industry Group, with the partnership supporting the growth and development of the sport at all levels, including the roll out of its Regional Office Structure, which employed 25 new staff across the State to deliver grassroots netball.
Sport and Recreation Minister, the Hon. Mick Murray MLA said Western Australian netball had achieved some remarkable milestones in 2019, in terms of promoting women's sport and securing opportunities to support the game's growth.
"For too long major commercial opportunities like naming rights and sponsorships were out of reach for women's sport - and it is terrific to see Gold Industry Group continuing to back these athletes to achieve,” he said.
"It is my strong hope the positive example set by Gold Industry Group and Netball WA with their partnership will spur more major funding deals in support of women's sport.
"This agreement will directly benefit Netball WA and help the State Government support high performance sport, grassroots clubs, and enhance our facilities for the thousands of Western Australians who attend this venue each year," Mr Murray concluded.
Netball WA Chief Executive Officer Simon Taylor said the venue will continue to benefit the sporting community and play an important role in the development of Western Australian netballers.
“The Gold Netball Centre is a beacon for netball in Western Australia and we’re very proud to have the continued support of the Gold Industry Group,” he said.
“The venue attracts more than 100,000 visitors annually and plays an integral role in the development of our athletes through world-class facilities, whilst also serving as the home of our elite teams.
“The Centre hosts every level of netball in our State, from the introductory Suncorp NetSetGO, to Metro League, the Gold Industry Group WANL and the elite in West Coast Fever.
“Importantly, the Centre is not just a netball venue; it’s used regularly for badminton, volleyball, judo and exercise classes, as we continue to promote the venue’s versatility,” Mr Taylor concluded.
Gold Industry Group Vice Chairperson Kelly Carter expressed her delight at unveiling this next stage in the partnership.
“We are thrilled to support the home of netball in Western Australia, growing the sport and building its connection with the community through our partnership,” she said.
“The Gold Netball Centre is an amazing facility for the community that brings players, families and friends together.
We are proud to be an integral part of the netball community and support every player’s journey,” Ms Carter said.
The news comes after a record $5 million partnership between the Gold Industry Group and Netball WA was announced earlier this year, which saw the Gold Industry Group support the growth of, provide more opportunities for and ensure the sustainability of netball across the State as the first Principal Partner of Netball WA, Elite Partner of West Coast Fever and Premier Partner of Shooting Stars.
The Gold Industry Group has also become the naming rights partner of the Gold Industry Group West Australian Netball League, and the Associate Partner of grassroots program, Suncorp NetSetGo.
Gold Industry Group members supporting the partnership include Gold Fields, Northern Star Resources, Saracen Mineral Holdings, Newcrest Mining, St Barbara Limited, Newmont Goldcorp Australia, AngloGold Ashanti Australia, Gold Road Resources, and Ramelius Resources.
