The Gold Industry Group (GIG) showcased the diverse range of jobs and career pathways in Australia’s gold industry to 10 000 students and the general public at the 2021 Perth SkillsWest Career Expo in August.

The GIG’s booth featured its initiatives centred around developing talent pathways and education engaging attendees through the Gold Jobs Challenge to guide them in their career journey, a quiz designed to help discover suitable roles and the variety of positions available in Australia’s gold industry.

Across 3 days, over 100 organisations and employers including members Regis Resources, The Perth Mint, and The Apprenticeship Community presented their career opportunities for all ages.

More than 5 100 Year 9-12 students from schools across the State and more than 5000 members of the wider community turned up to advance their careers.

Northern Star Resources Senior Recruitment Lead Natalie Teal who joined the team on Saturday shared the advantages of having a presence at the career expo and speaking with attendees.

“I really enjoyed collaborating with the Gold Industry Group. It was great speaking with a wide range of people at SkillsWest, from Year 11 and 12 students to those who wanted a change in their career. The Gold Jobs Challenge was a great addition this year, well done Gold Industry Group,” said Ms Teal.

Most job seekers who approached the GIG booth were interested and ready to get into gold, particularly looking for roles in the gold mining industry looked through the Gold Jobs website where they could create a job seeker account to receive job alerts for roles of interest.

Teachers were pleased to find out about the National Gold Education Program, seeing the benefits of ordering a free Gold Resources Kit and booking a free Gold Class Session facilitated by workers in the gold industry.

Many teachers were also career advisors at their schools and were eager to pass on information to their students about the GIG members’ employment programs such as Apprenticeships, Traineeships, Scholarships and Graduate Programs
