To mark the 2019 NAIDOC celebrations, KCGM unveiled a haul truck tray designed and painted by local Aboriginal artist Jason Dimer.

The design reflects the connection between mining, people and the environment, and serves as a visual reminder of the importance of reconciliation in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

GIG WANL finishes in grand final gold

The Gold Industry Group Western Australian Netball League (GIG WANL) 2019 season came to a close on Friday 20 September at the Gold Netball Centre, where the crowd enjoyed three fantastic games in a thrilling premiership conclusion.

It was a big night as the three division deciders, 20U, Open and Men, were played out in an intense rivalry between the West Coast Warriors and the Western Roar.

Gold supports Shooting Stars' new Laverton site

As Shooting Stars’ Premier Partner, the Gold Industry Group (GIG) is excited to announce the program’s expansion into Laverton, thanks to the combined support of the GIG and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

The program’s new trial site will be based at Laverton School and begin in Term 4 this year, making it the second site based in the Goldfields region and the eighth site in Western Australia overall.

Evolution Mining have signed a two-year partnership with the Johnathan Thurston Academy to improve employment and training opportunities for Indigenous job seekers.

The partnership will also assist local and Indigenous participants by preparing them to be job ready, building self-confidence and developing skills in resume writing, job interviewing skills and submitting job applications.

This year’s Diggers & Dealers was as good as gold as 2450 delegates descended on Kalgoorlie for mining’s biggest industry event.

Former Australian Prime Minister John Howard was a hit, gold shone throughout the three day program with GIG Directors Andrea Maxey and Stuart Tonkin taking to the stage, a focus on the image of mining created much discussion at our popular breakfast event with Deloitte, and Northern Star Resources claimed dealer of the year.

KCGM has announced significant changes to its Parental Leave Policy, joining its Joint Venture owner Newmont Goldcorp Australia in setting a new industry standard within Australia.

These changes help address the gender pay gap that occurs when parents are out of the workforce for extended periods. KCGM continues to offer employees access to family-friendly flexible work arrangements when at work.

Martu footballers fly high at Optus Stadium

On July 12, Newcrest Mining supported 70 young Martu men to participate in a curtain raiser football match at Perth’s Optus Stadium prior to The AFL Grand Final rematch between Collingwood and the West Coast Eagles.

The young Martu players and support staff travelled several thousand kilometres to Perth from various remote communities in the Pilbara region of WA.

NAIDOC Netball Carnival celebrates culture

The Gold Industry Group (GIG) backed NAIDOC Netball Carnival reached new heights this year, celebrating Indigenous culture and achievement, in every facet of the day.

A special welcome by Glenda Kickett was followed by an Indigenous Dance by Mandurah Grassroots to mark the official opening at the Wembley Sports Park yesterday. Australia’s largest Indigenous netball carnival then came to life and in the hands of every player with a bespoke ball designed by the talented Shontae Jetta, Narrogin Aboriginal Grassroots Site and Shooting Stars participant.

The WA Mining Club Young Professionals’ second networking event saw experienced members of the industry deconstruct the theme “Young Families Maintaining Mining Careers – The Real Golden Years”, providing the next generation of leaders with insight and lived experience on how to achieve and maintain a work-life balance.

Hundreds of representatives from leaders to graduates utilised the opportunity to network at The Westin Hotel.
