Gold Fields support students' indigenous art project

In a collaboration between the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Gold Fields and the Museum of the Goldfields, East Kalgoorlie Primary School (EKPS) students embarked on a major art project with acclaimed local Aboriginal artists Edie Ulrich, Marjorie Stubbs and Danny Ulrich.

The project built students’ art and language skills, and relationships, allowing the passing of cultural knowledge between generations, and provided a taste of what it is like to have a career as an artist.

Gold Education Program goes national

The Gold Industry Group (GIG)’s school program has expanded to inspire the next generation of gold industry leaders, by providing free, interactive gold demonstrations to primary and secondary students across Australia.

Developed in conjunction with Earth Science Western Australia (ESWA), the one-hour sessions are delivered by passionate gold industry professionals and incorporate STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) learning through a hands-on activity that replicates common-place scenarios within the gold sector.

Western Australia’s netball superstars unearthed the State’s golden secrets on an interactive virtual adventure through Perth’s CBD, as they walked the Heart of Gold Discovery Trail.

Armed with the free Heart of Gold Australia app, West Coast Fever players Stacey Francis, Jhaniele Fowler, Verity Charles and Shannon Eagland learnt the rich history and importance of gold to Australia’s future.

Speaking to more than 400 delegates at World Gold 2019 earlier this month, Regis Resources Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Jim Beyer encouraged all participants to do their bit in educating the next generation, for the sake of the industry’s future.

Jim’s keynote brought to light a critical issue that continues to impact gold mining and the broader resources industry in one way or another: the concerning drop in the number of STEM-skilled Australian workers.

Gold supports Shooting Stars' new Laverton site

As Shooting Stars’ Premier Partner, the Gold Industry Group (GIG) is excited to announce the program’s expansion into Laverton, thanks to the combined support of the GIG and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

The program’s new trial site will be based at Laverton School and begin in Term 4 this year, making it the second site based in the Goldfields region and the eighth site in Western Australia overall.

ABC Bullion have been appointed Presenting Partner for the Tutankhamun: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh exhibition when it arrives at Sydney's Australian Museum in 2021.

The exhibition represents the largest of it’s kind containing the King’s treasures to have ever left Egypt, with the Australian visit one part of a global tour for the priceless artefacts.

In addition to the Perth and Kalgoorlie Heart of Gold Discovery Trails, the app now boasts a wide variety of gold tourism experiences that include tours, attractions and historic landmarks.

Gold industry connects with job seekers at SkillsWest

More than 15,000 job seekers descended on the annual SkillsWest Career Expo in Perth earlier this month, where the Gold Industry Group, Newmont Goldcorp Australia, Norton Gold Fields, Macmahon and Ausdrill showcased the sector’s career opportunities.

Held from 16 to 18 August in the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, the expo presented a unique opportunity for job seekers to discover current vacancies and career pathways at over 100 exhibiting organisations.

NAIDOC Netball Carnival celebrates culture

The Gold Industry Group (GIG) backed NAIDOC Netball Carnival reached new heights this year, celebrating Indigenous culture and achievement, in every facet of the day.

A special welcome by Glenda Kickett was followed by an Indigenous Dance by Mandurah Grassroots to mark the official opening at the Wembley Sports Park yesterday. Australia’s largest Indigenous netball carnival then came to life and in the hands of every player with a bespoke ball designed by the talented Shontae Jetta, Narrogin Aboriginal Grassroots Site and Shooting Stars participant.

Students inspired to Get Into Resources

Golden job opportunities were amongst those showcased at Get Into Resources last month, giving students a unique opportunity to explore career opportunities and study pathways within the resources industry.

Held over three days at the North Metropolitan TAFE’s campus in Northbridge, Get Into Resources saw almost 400 year 10 students from 13 schools across Western Australia attend the careers event.
