Global leader in precious metals The Perth Mint has joined with leading-edge technology specialists Security Matters Ltd to develop the world’s first mine to market ethical gold supply chain assurance solution.

Titled trueGold, the initiative will lead the commercialisation of a worldwide integrity application for gold mining companies, refiners, vault operators, depositories, mints, wholesalers and retailers.

Gold Fields support students' indigenous art project

In a collaboration between the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Gold Fields and the Museum of the Goldfields, East Kalgoorlie Primary School (EKPS) students embarked on a major art project with acclaimed local Aboriginal artists Edie Ulrich, Marjorie Stubbs and Danny Ulrich.

The project built students’ art and language skills, and relationships, allowing the passing of cultural knowledge between generations, and provided a taste of what it is like to have a career as an artist.

Northern Star joins Saracen in 50% ownership of Kalgoorlie Super Pit

Northern Star Resources has joined Saracen Mineral Holdings in making the Kalgoorlie Super Pit a wholly Australian-owned gold mine, with the announcement to acquire 50% from Newmont Goldcorp Australia for USD $800 million.

The purchase will deliver Northern Star a half-share of one of the most significant gold systems in the world.

The stage was swept by Newmont Goldcorp Australia and Anglogold Ashanti Australia emergency response teams at the 9th annual MERC’s presentation night, taking out overall second and third places along with several scenario wins and the Best Medic award.

As the MERC’s chosen Industry Partner, the Gold Industry Group proudly supported the 2019 Mining Emergency Response Competition (MERC) alongside two gold mining teams and 12 others from across Western Australia including one from Indonesia, as they competed at Langley Park in Perth from 22 to 24 November.

The Gold Industry Group (GIG)’s school program has expanded to inspire the next generation of gold industry leaders, by providing free, interactive gold demonstrations to primary and secondary students across Australia.

Gruyere Gold Mine's grand opening

Australia’s Gruyere Gold Mine was officially opened by Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan and Minister for Mines and Petroleum Bill Johnston yesterday - set to produce 300,000 ounces of gold annually and employ 250 people.

Located 200 kilometres east of Laverton in the north-eastern Goldfields region, the Gruyere Mine is a joint venture between Gold Fields and Gold Road Resources, with Gold Fields as the mine operator and manager.

Saracen acquires 50% of Kalgoorlie Super Pit

Saracen Mineral Holdings has become a 50% owner of the Kalgoorlie Super Pit, following the USD $750 million purchase from Barrick Gold Corporation.

Announced on 25 November, the purchase of 100% of the Barrick shares was completed by the end of last week, making Saracen the equal owner alongside Newmont Goldcorp Australia of the Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Joint Venture, which owns and operates the Super Pit gold mine in Western Australia.

KCGM is making final preparations ahead of the 20th anniversary of St Barbara’s parade, when once again, a 793C haul truck will rumble down Hannan Street in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and provide an awe-inspiring finale with a special significance.

The 793C haul truck will be available for viewing at the top of Hannan Street for an hour before the parade begins, when members of the public can get a photo in front of the truck.

EDL has switched on its 23MW power station that integrates photovoltaic solar with gas and diesel generation to power Gold Fields’ Agnew Gold Mine, completing the first stage of one of Australia’s largest hybrid renewable microgrid projects.

EDL CEO James Harman and Gold Fields Executive Vice President: Australasia, Stuart Mathews, welcomed Western Australia Minister for Mines and Petroleum, Energy and Industrial Relations, Bill Johnston, to the site this week to officially open Stage 1.

A modern-day prospector and unsung hero of the Eastern Goldfields, Bill Allen is set to be immortalised in a new book ‘No Royalty, No Deal’ by Karl Wolzak, launched this month by the Amalgamated Prospectors and Leaseholders Association (APLA) of Western Australia.

Royce William Allen, better known as Bill, was a Kalgoorlie prospector who during his lifetime discovered gold deposits totalling 45 tonnes in situ and worth almost $3 billion in today’s gold price.
