From Henty to Maldon: Kaiser Reef’s eastern states growth story

Kaiser Reef is building its future across two of eastern Australia’s historic gold regions. Kaiser Reef is building its future across two of eastern Australia’s historic gold regions. The company operates the Henty Gold Mine in Tasmania and is working to return Victoria’s high-grade Maldon Gold Project to commercial production. Together, the two operations give the growing producer a distinctive position in Australia’s gold industry. The Gold Industry Group is pleased to welcome Kaiser Reef as a new member.

Building across two historic regions

Kaiser Reef is a small and growing gold producer with operations spanning Tasmania and Victoria.

At Henty, the company operates Tasmania’s only listed gold mine. The recent focus has been to stabilise and increase production, supporting the operation’s future and the regional jobs connected to it.

Across Bass Strait, Kaiser Reef is redeveloping the Maldon Gold Project in the heart of Victoria’s Golden Triangle. Maldon has a long history of gold mining and still has an operational mill run by Kaiser. The company has been working to move the project back to a point where there is a clear pathway to commercial mining activities.

Managing an operating mine while advancing a second project requires a practical approach. Kaiser Reef’s priorities for the coming year reflect that balance: strengthen production at Henty and continue the work needed to bring Maldon back into full operation.

Bringing Maldon back into full production

The progress made at Maldon is one of the company’s recent achievements.

Returning a historic project to production involves more than reopening old workings. It requires a clear understanding of the geology, modern operating plans and careful engagement with the community around the project.

For Kaiser Reef, Maldon represents an opportunity to build on the area’s gold mining history, Maldon has produced  1.75Moz at 28g/t Au to date, while creating a new phase of activity for the town and surrounding region.

The company’s work there also complements its established position at Henty. Together, the two projects form the basis of Kaiser Reef’s ambition to grow as an eastern states gold producer.

Supporting regional jobs and communities

Kaiser Reef places a strong emphasis on residential employment and the use of local contractors.

This approach helps ensure that the economic benefits of mining remain within the regions where the company operates. It also supports stronger connections between the workforce, the operation and the surrounding community.

The company contributes to a range of smaller community initiatives in both Tasmania and Maldon. It has also purchased land in Maldon and is working with local residents on plans to establish a new community space.

As its operations develop, Kaiser Reef sees responsible mining as an opportunity to support regional employment, local businesses and community activity over the longer term.

A can-do culture

One of the qualities the Kaiser Reef team values most about the gold industry is its practical, can-do attitude.

That outlook extends across the industry, from company leaders to the people working underground. It is particularly important when operating established mines and returning historic projects to production, where teams need to solve problems and adapt to changing conditions.

Through its membership of the Gold Industry Group, Kaiser Reef hopes to support the national gold industry while helping extend the Group’s reach across Tasmania and the eastern states. The company also looks forward to contributing to discussions about responsible development and the role gold mining can play in supporting regional communities.

The Gold Industry Group warmly welcomes Kaiser Reef and looks forward to following its progress at Henty and Maldon.
