Gold Industry Supports RFDS Matched Giving Campaign

The gold industry is supporting the Royal Flying Doctor Service through the RFDS Matched Giving Campaign, helping raise vital funds for healthcare services across regional and remote Australia. Highlights the important role the RFDS plays in supporting mining communities, workers and regional towns, while showcasing how industry support is helping strengthen access to life-saving care across Western Australia.

From remote mine sites to regional towns, access to emergency healthcare can mean the difference between life and death. For almost a century, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) has delivered life-saving medical care to people living and working in rural and remote Australia.

Recognising the vital role the RFDS plays across regional Western Australia, Gold Industry Group member companies are supporting the organisation through fundraising and matched giving initiatives that will help strengthen healthcare access for communities across the country.

Why the Partnership Matters

With operational bases in Broome, Port Hedland, Meekatharra, Kalgoorlie and Jandakot, the RFDS is a critical part of the healthcare network for regional and remote Western Australia. Supported by a dedicated team of doctors, nurses, pilots and other medical professionals, the service provides emergency retrievals, GP clinics and specialist care to communities that may otherwise have limited access to medical support.

For the gold industry, where many operations are located in isolated regions, access to emergency medical services is essential. Mining environments can be complex and remote, making the RFDS an important source of support for both workers and the communities in which they operate.

Westgold Resources, Greatland Gold and Regis Resources are backing the RFDS through fundraising and matched giving initiatives, recognising the critical role the organisation plays across regional Australia.

Their support reflects broader industry values centred on community wellbeing, regional resilience and giving back to the communities that support the sector.

How Companies Are Supporting the RFDS

Held annually on 14 May, Royal Flying Doctor Day recognises the organisation’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare across Australia since its establishment in 1928.

As matched giving partners, Westgold Resources, Greatland Gold and Regis Resources helped amplify community contributions by matching donations made during the campaign period. While the fundraising target was set at $1 million, the generosity of supporters saw the campaign significantly exceed this goal, raising a total of $1.6 million.

Company leaders highlighted the importance of the RFDS to regional and remote operations:

“The RFDS provides a critical service to inland Australia and our employees were keen to put some effort in and raise some funds.” — Jim Beyer, Managing Director, Regis Resources Ltd.

“We have a level of confidence that when things do go wrong, that we can call the RFDS and they’ll be there to support us.” — Wayne Bramwell, Managing Director and CEO, Westgold Resources Limited.

“The RFDS has a massive impact on regional communities, including our mine sites.” — Shaun Day, Chief Executive Officer, Greatland.

Through fundraising, awareness initiatives and matched giving, this collective effort demonstrates the impact that can be achieved when organisations work together to support regional communities.

The Impact Being Created

The $1.6 million raised will help support 274 RFDS aviation, clinical and ground crew members as they undertake 4,442 hours of training to operate the organisation’s new PC-12 PRO aircraft.

Equipped with the latest flight and safety technology, these aircraft will strengthen the RFDS’s ability to bridge time and distance, ensuring life-saving healthcare continues to reach people who live, work and travel throughout regional and remote Western Australia.

Key statistics from the RFDS include:

· More than 345,000 patients supported annually

· Over 22,000 nurse and GP clinic services delivered across Australia

· More than 27 million kilometres flown by the RFDS fleet each year

Supporting the Communities That Support the Industry

The gold industry’s support of the RFDS highlights the important role mining companies play beyond their operations. By backing essential services such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Gold Industry Group members are helping strengthen the health, resilience and wellbeing of the regional communities that underpin Australia’s gold sector.

It is a powerful example of how industry collaboration can create lasting benefits for the people and places at the heart of regional Australia.
